Budget balance in 2010, Asia

With the exception of Japan, “Confucian Asian” economies either have budget deficit of less than 3 percent of GDP, or a surplus. Here is their budget balance (revenues less expenditures) as percent of GDP last year. Data is from The Economist, February 10th 2011,

Japan -7.5, Pakistan -6.3

Vietnam -5.9, Malaysia -5.6, India -5.1

Philippines -3.9

China -2.2, S. Korea -2.0, Taiwan -1.8

Indonesia -0.8, Singapore -0.7, Thailand -0.2,

Hong Kong +2.9

New Zealand -5.5, Australia -2.7
